[Highly Romanticized] Mark Antony/Cleopatra AU: Arthur Pendragon, recently announced Emperor of Rome, summons the Pharaoh of Egypt, Merlin Emrys, to initiate an allegiance between their forces. Intellectual and beautiful, Merlin complies and sets out to seduce Arthur in order to achieve maximum status and power. Arthur need not be seduced as he quickly falls for Merlin, who in turn, although wary of where he lets his heart lie, drops the facade and does the same. Envious of the power that Arthur has achieved through his battles and alliance with Egypt, his own allies wage a war on Merlin and Arthur’s united forces. Amidst the battle, false news of Merlin’s death reaches Arthur where he deems life no longer worth living and throws himself on his sword. Shattered at the news of Arthur’s suicide, Merlin allows an asp to bite him, poisoning himself happily to join Arthur in the afterlife.
“I have always loved you, Merlin.”“And I have always known.”
